Neuro Art With A Difference:  Julie Wilcox

This year I have had so many ups and downs, as many of you who look to art as a form of therapy will identify with.  Today I was in real need of some Therapy and for a while I had been looking at Neuro Art and loving the pictures created.

So,  feeling a bit blue lately I decided to use my wonderful scholarship that I received from the exceptionally talented Tamara Laport and kick off my years journey –Tamara Laport Life Book 2023. The lesson was the first in her Life Book  2023 Class.

This was a lesson to start making your marks and to relax yourself to begin your year of wonderful, healing art.

Needless to say it is April and I have just begun the first lesson for week one of the year – don’t pretend you cant identify with this too!!

Now for why this is Neuro Art with a Difference.  I originally had started on the basics of Tamara’s lesson, namely background, building up with collage, doing a bit of gesso work etc.  That’s how the picture sat for a few weeks, until I needed to get myself back on track with a good kick in the pants and a major talking to myself about why I feel joy living today, why I love to help people, why I do art, and why I thought this business was a great idea. (Yup – Im talking to those of you in need of inspiration to keep putting one brick down at a time.

So with the combination of the started project from Life Book 2023 with the thought in mind to “Make some Marks” as we call it in art,  and the inspiration from Ina Kirsten I wrote diligently on the back of my page what I wanted to manifest for myself and began drawing my pathways.

I highly recommend you look at the links above if this interest you.

Because I already had some form of background colour I used the black ink and drew my lines and made sure to round off the corners

The start of the lines on the collaged canvas.

I knew that I wanted a more colourful background, so used my Sharpies, Graphic Markers and Posca pens to add further detail.

Some Zoomed  In Pictures to show the marking and detail fill in.

Everyone always thinks art is something for the few talented

out there – this just goes to show that making marks, or patterns can be equally as beautiful and a wonderful piece of art.
